When your child brings home his/her book, please read it together. Share it with family during Thanksgiving as these books are very special. They are definitely something you will want to keep!
Beanie Babies
Chunky Monkey- Teaches us to look for chunks in words. Example: fall, bit Tryin' Lion- Teaches us to try one of the reading strategies we know and NOT to just look at the teacher or other adult for help with the word. For example: Today while reading with a child, he came to an unknown word (teacher). Instead of looking at me for the word, he used the picture clue to figure out what the word said! Stretchy Snake- Teaches us to stretch out (also known as sounding out) words. This works well during reading AND writing! Skippy Frog- Teaches us to skip over a hard word while reading. Once the reader has read to the period, he/she rereads the sentence. Hopefully the second attempt is successful! The idea behind this strategy is that other words in the sentence can often help us solve unknown words. For example: The little girl wanted to find her umbrella because it was raining outside. The word raining provides a clue for the word umbrella. Dr. Seuss Bags |
