Believe it or not, conferences are MONDAY, September 29 and THURSDAY, Oct. 2. The schedule is listed below. As you will notice, the schedules are very full. Please be on time and respect the 15 minutes allotted for your family. It is difficult for them to place the earbuds inside their ears and to actually KEEP them there. It might be better to purchase a pair of headphones to use instead. The last time I was at the Dollar Tree (by Kohls) they had headphones for $1.00. Of course this is optional and I apologize that the earbuds aren't working well!
The earbuds/headphones are used for our Listen to Reading station. It is one of the kids' favorites! Barnes and Noble has an online story time that the kids enjoy. Give it a try! It beats video games any day! http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/online-storytime-books-toys/379003588/ Congratulations to Zoey White for being chosen by her classmates to eat a cookie with Mrs. Grell! Each child nominated one person from the class who they felt consistently follows the class rules (treat people right, do the right thing). The child with the most nominations won and Zoey was the winner! Last year's theme was Donuts with the Principal, this year it's Cookies with the Principal. Each month someone new will be selected. Talk with your child about whether he/she follows our class rules. Snack Helpers/specials for the week of September 29Monday - Ayden, Library Tuesday - Connor, PE Wednesday - Dominic, PE Thursday - Luella, Music Friday - No School mathOne of the things we worked on in math this week was graphing. The children enjoyed making a class graph titled How Many Teeth Have You Lost? The results are below:
*four children haven't lost any teeth *two children have lost one tooth *seven children have lost two teeth *one child has lost three teeth *one child has lost four teeth *seven children have lost five or more teeth In the upcoming weeks we will continue to build various graphs, including a Skittles graph and a M & M graph. Would you be willing to donate snack sized bags (ones you would pass out to trick-or-treaters) of Skittles and M & M's to use for this purpose? We will need 24 bags of each. If so, please send them to school at your convenience. Thanks! The following students have snack this week:
Monday, Kiley Tuesday, Izzy Wednesday, Logan Thursday, Hayden Friday, Deven Our "extra" snack tub is running low. If you would be willing to send a few snacks, I would sure appreciate it. The "extra" tub is used when someone forgets snack. Believe me, a day without snack is not a good day!
Reading Homework Today your child is bringing home a bag of books for reading practice. A couple of the books are "just right" for your child to read, while others should be read TO your child. Please be sure to return the books on Monday, September 22. Happy Reading!
Don't forget.......................................it's spirit week! Tomorrow is Crazy Sock Day and Friday is Blue/White/Titan Spirit Gear Day!
For some time now my voice mail has not been working. If you want to contact me the best way to do this is with an email ([email protected]).
Conferences Though it's hard to believe, conferences are right around the corner! They are scheduled for September 29 from 4-8pm and October 2 from 4-8pm These first conferences are only 15 minutes in length so they are not "student involved" like they have been in the past. Feel free to bring your child with you, though they won't be participating in the conference. If it works to find a sitter, sometimes that is helpful so that we can have 15 minutes without any distractions. Do whatever is best for you. I look forward to meeting with you. If you don't have a conference time, please send me a note indicating times that will work best for you on September 29 and October 2. Reading PracticeOn Friday, September 12, your child will be bringing home a bag of books. One or more of the books will be books that your child CAN read (we call them "just right" books) and a couple will be for YOU to read to your child. Because good readers need lots of practice, encourage your child to read his/her books to as many people as possible. Praise and encourage your child as he/she reads. I'm sure you will be as proud of your child's reading abilities as I am! Please return your child's bag of books on Monday, September 16. It is VERY important that the books be returned on time as we use our books on a daily basis for Read To Self. MathWe have been very busy during math. Things that we are working on include: 1. Counting (days in school, collections) 2. Calendar 3. Skip Counting (5's and 10's) 4. Problem Solving 5. Number Sentences 6. Even and Odd Numbers 7. Tally Marks 8. Adding and Subtracting 9. Number Writing (to 100) How can you incorporate math into what you do at home? Here are a few ideas: Practice counting in the car. Estimate how many pieces of silverware will be needed for supper. Play games that involve counting such as Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders. Solve addition and subtraction problems together. Play math games on the computer. Buy a math workbook for independent practice. WritingMuch of what we have been doing during writing is making birthday cards for our classmates. We have already celebrated six birthdays and we have only been in school 14 days! Now that's a lot of birthdays in a short period of time. We will soon be starting a personal narrative unit. Personal narratives are true stories written by the children about things they have experienced in life. These stories need not be about BIG events, rather about small things that have happened such as losing a tooth, playing soccer, going out to eat, etc. Talk with your child about possible writing topics. Make a list of ideas and send it to school with your child. Important DatesSeptember 17 Early Dismissal
