Don't forget! Tomorrow Emerson's family is providing pizza for lunch. There's no need to send a cold lunch, unless your child won't eat pizza. A BIG thank you to Emerson and his family! Perfect AttendanceOur class earned the perfect attendance trophy, AGAIN! Great work everyone!
Tonight your child is bringing home a book order. It may be the last one of the year! You can pay with cash, check, or credit card (if ordering at scholastic.com). Keep in mind that you are not limited to the book fliers when ordering from scholastic.com. If there's a title you want, search for it to see if it is available. If yes, you can order it, and the class will still get credit for your order. HomeworkMany of the students have reading homework tonight. Ask your child if he/she does. If it's done and returned on time, it's worth 5 titan tickets. Study TripOn Wednesday, April 25, we will be going to the Rose Theater to see Curious George. There is no need to send a sack lunch as we will be back in time for lunch. Due to limited seating in the theater, we are unable to take parents. Please talk with your child about proper audience procedures. When we went to the ballet at Iowa Western, some of the kids were talking during the performance. Please remind your child how to be a respectful audience. End Of The Year CelebrationWe will have an End of The Year Celebration on Tuesday, May 29th, from 1:40-3:00. I'm hoping you can join us! Though I' don't have all of the plans set in stone just yet, we will be singing a few songs, reciting some poetry, playing Kahoot, and having ice cream sundaes. Mark your calendars and plan to join us! CaterpillarsThree of our caterpillars are now in their chrysalises. Keep your fingers and toes crossed that we will soon have three beautiful butterflies!
Mrs. Avila sent out an email to the teachers looking for some play center items. If you have anything on the list that you would be willing to donate to her, please email her at [email protected]. Below is her email:
I'm planning some different centers for guidance next year that will be more career center focused. I'm in need of the following items and wanted to see if anyone had any to donate before purchasing....
Emerson will be providing a pizza party for the class in honor of his birthday. The party will be held during lunch on Friday, April 27. Thank you Emerson!
When the walk was over, the PTA provided water and fruit snacks. Below is a video from our Rock-The-Walk. Thank you to everyone who supported this Kreft Fundraiser. Guidance FUnEach week time is spent with Mrs. Avila, our guidance counselor. After a short lesson students are able to practice what they have learned. Some of the things they practice are playing, taking turns, sharing, listening to others, using their words to problem solve, etc. The video below shows just how much the kids LOVE guidance!
As part of our science unit on living things, we are watching a jar of caterpillars turn into chrysalises. The video below shows the caterpillars as they prepare to make this magnificent change! A live video can also be found on the Kreft homepage. Because we don't have school for the next four days, I didn't want the kids to miss this awesome transformation. Our director of technology, Mr. Allen, has set up one of our Chromebook's to use as a webcam. This is the first time he's tried this so hopefully it will work. If you don't see anything on the live feed, you will know that something went wrong.
Conferences are just around the corner and 9 families still need to sign up for a time. The link is below. We typically have 95-100% attendance and I hope this will be true for this conference as well. The kids have learned a lot this year and there is much to celebrate! The link is below. HospitalizationThank you to everyone who sent well wishes during my recent hospital stay. I'm feeling great (maybe a little tired) and am so happy to be back at school! I will be on blood thinners for 6 months and hopefully after that, I can be done with the medication. I will be going back to my doctor for a follow up next Friday but will only be gone for half a day. The morning I came back to school I brought donuts for the class. I overheard one student say, "This is the BEST day of my life!" Knowing that pulmonary embolisms (as my doctor calls them) can be fatal, I couldn't have agreed more! New SeriesI've been reading a new series of books to the class called My Weird School. They are indeed "weird" but the kids LOVE them. If you are looking for something to read at home, give them a try. So far we've read Mrs. Daisy is Crazy and Mr. Klutz is Nuts. Writing UnitWe are currently finishing a unit on persuasive writing. You may have had a letter written to you trying to persuade you to do something. The students have been taught to state what they want, give 2-3 reasons, and then restate their request. If you haven't received a letter then your child may have written to me or to school staff members, such as Mrs. Grell. One student recently wrote the principal a letter asking for more recess time and for sprinklers to play in when it gets hot. LOL! Study TripsWe have two upcoming study trips. On April 17 we will be heading to IWCC to see a ballet and on April 25 we will go to the Rose Theater to see Curious George. Due to limited seating, we are unable to take parents along. If you have any Curious George books at home, this would be a good time to reread them. Important DatesApril 20 No School
