Today Mrs. Wilcox came to the classroom to help with some math testing. The kids were VERY excited, to say the least! Of course they were disappointed because she didn't bring her baby along and some were concerned that she left Hadley home alone! LOL Below is a recent picture of Hadley! What a cutie! New WebsiteYou may or may not be familiar with Odyssey, an educational website. The district has a paid membership to this site which offers a wide range of educational activities. I will be sending your child's username and password home tomorrow. Give it a try! You can access Odyssey by going to the district's website. The link is on the lower left hand corner of the home page. Reading HomeworkNext week we will be taking our reading tests. Our A Reading (similar to NWEA math) is on Tuesday, Jan. 27 and the remaining reading tests (sight words, nonsense words, passage reading and word segmenting) will be on Wednesday, January 28. Please spend some time this weekend working on the practice packet I sent home at conferences. There's a lot of pressure on teachers regarding test scores these days so I would appreciate a little extra help at home, if at all possible. Winter coatsThe kids are trying to convince me that they no longer need their winter coats. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but temperatures in the 30's and 40's still require winter coats, especially on windy days. Please make sure that your child wears his/her winter coat, at least until it gets up into the 50's. moneyOne of the things we are working on in math is money. The children need to know the names and values of the coins, as well as adding various amounts of money. For example, How much would two dimes, one nickel, and three pennies be? Many children do not have much experience with money. Would you be willing to do a little money work at home? Start by helping your child to name the coins, then teach them the value of each coin. Once they have mastered this, work on adding various coins together.

Our Valentine's Day party will be held on February 13 from 1:30-3:00. Andrea Hathaway is in charge of the party so if you would be willing to help her, please contact her at [email protected]. She will need help the day of the party, as well as people to donate supplies. The following people have already volunteered to help (they signed up at registration last August): Rachel Cyboron Lyndsay Schaben Jessica Wittwer Mary Fahrenkrug Nanette Buckles We will be exchanging Valentine cards at the party so please plan to send 21 cards. They can be homemade or store bought. Please have your child address the cards as they are more than capable of doing this job! :) If you would like to send a little Valentine treat, please tape it to your child's valentine cards. To help your child address his/her cards, I have included a class list (below). Your child will also need a Valentine box to gather his/her Valentine cards in. I have many fond memories of making my box with my mom! You can do whatever you want for your child's box, but be sure to clearly display your child's name on it. If you are unable to make a box with your child, please let me know and I will help your child make one at school. The same is true regarding Valentine cards. If you are unable to purchase them, please let me know and I will take care of this for you. Last year I took a couple pictures of the boxes that were made and brought in. Some people go ALL OUT for Valentine boxes! Mine were never quite this special! Class List for making cards: Ayden Addison Ashlee Connor Dominic Hayden Isabell Jaylen Jayden Jackson Kameron Kennadee Kiley Koltin Logan Luella Mathias Mason Paige N. Paige S. Reagan Zoey Snack tubThe extra snack tub is nearly empty and that's NOT a good thing! Would you be willing to send a donation? If so, please send whatever you might have, we do not need enough for the entire class. Conference attendanceA big THANK YOU to everyone who attended conferences. We had 90 % attendance! I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with you and sharing your child's successes. Ski TripOver break my family went skiing at Keystone, CO. Though my husband and I are convinced that we are WAY to old to ski, we had a great time. I hope you enjoyed your time off as well!
Believe it or not, it's already time for our winter conferences. Times were sent home before Christmas. If you do not know your designated time or need to make a change, please email me asap. Conferences will be held on Monday, January 12, from 4:00-8:00 pm and on Thursday, January 15, from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm. Monday's schedule is VERY full so please be on time and respect you allotted 30 minutes. Some of the conferences are scheduled in 15 minute increments though each family will have their full 30 minute conference. 15 minutes will involve the student sharing his/her work with parents, the final 15 minutes will be for the parents/teachers to talk. Please enter the classroom upon arrival, even if another family is inside. Our classroom is large and is able to accommodate two families at a time. Christmas VacationI hope you had an enjoyable Christmas. I know I sure did! Though I had a great time visiting family in Louisana and spending time with my family here, I was ready to return to school. The children bring me such joy! Most of the kids missed school and were just as happy to be back as I was. Below are a few pictures from the holidays. Hadley WilcoxSo apparently one of our students ran into Mrs. Wilcox at dance the other night and requested a more recent picture of her baby, Hadley! What a cutie!
Our class pictures have arrived. If you ordered one but didn't receive it, please let me know. Once everyone had gone home I found two pictures on the floor.
According to my records, these people ordered class pictures: Ayden Dominic Connor Jackson Kennadee Paige S. Izzy Addie Zoey Logan |
