Congratulations to Braylyn Coats and Emma McCool for qualifying for the Kreft Spelling Bee. Study hard girls! Last week several nursing students from IWCC came to do a Health Fair for us. Of course the kids were very curious about what a "health fair" actually was. The main focus was on keeping safe during the upcoming summer months. The kids had a great time! We are making something special for Mother's Day and need a picture of each child with his/her mother. It doesn't need to be fancy, just a selfie of the two of you. Feel free to print it off yourself and/or email ([email protected]) it to me. I would like all of the pictures by May 2. An example is below. A big shout out to Luke Sutherland for volunteering in our classroom. Luke is one of my son's friends and has been earning community service hours by helping out at Kreft. He was a tremendous help and the kids LOVED him! Congratulations to Van Harmon for having perfect attendance this year! He will be walking in the upcoming Council Bluffs Pride Parade. Great work Van!

Eileen's Cookies is open! We've been talking about this new cookie shop during community circle. The owners, Karen and Jim Sulentic, are friends of mine. Their daughter, Katie, was in my class for kindergarten and first grade. If you get a chance, stop by. Tell them I sent you! I went during their grand opening to get cookies for the class. It just happened to be our PJ Party Day and I thought it would be the perfect snack! Mrs. Hahn's Cookies!Though not near as professional, here are some of the cookies I made this past weekend. My step-daughter is soon to graduate with a nursing degree so these are for her! Caiden Loose-IvesAs I mentioned earlier on the blog, Caiden Loose-Ives, a student from Miss Benson's room, recently had open heart surgery. Poor little buddy is not doing very well. He is back in the hospital where they are trying to figure out what the problem is. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Congratulations to Cate Perfect for being chosen to have Treats With The Principal. Cate is a great example of someone who "treats people right" and "does the right thing." Great Work Cate! Congratulations Brooklynn Rutledge!Congratulations to Brooklynn Rutledge for being recognized for her outstanding bus behavior.
Don't forget! Tomorrow, April 20, is the BIG day! Your child has permission to wear pajamas and to bring one stuffed animal. The kids tried to convince me to let them bring SEVERAL stuffed animals but I assured them that ONE was enough. Of course wearing pj's is optional......................I sure won't be wearing mine!! A couple of students told me that they were uncomfortable coming to school in their pajamas and that's perfectly fine. Please keep in mind that we will be going out to recess tomorrow and we have PE so tennis shoes are a must. CongratulationsCongratulations to Mrs. Kreft on the birth of her first grandchild. Autumn Clara was born on Monday evening. She weighed 7.1 pounds and is 20 inches long. All are doing well! Dr. Seuss BagsPlease watch for your child's Dr. Seuss bag to come home tomorrow. With our end of the year testing to start soon, it's a great time to get in a little extra reading practice.
We had a guest speaker from Hitchcock Nature Center visit our classroom this past week to teach us more about animal life cycles. As always, the kids had a great time! Some of our key learnings include: Mammals are warm blooded, have 2 life stages and are born alive. Birds hatch from eggs, are warm blooded, and have 3 life stages. Reptiles hatch from eggs, are cold blooded and have 3 life stages. Caiden Loose-IvesOne of our friends from Miss Benson's kindergarten class, Caiden Loose Ives, recently underwent his second open heart surgery. The surgery was last Wednesday and he is already home from the hospital. Unbelievable! If you would like to follow his progress, visit Miss Benson's blog at msbensonsblog.weebly.com. Please keep Caiden in your thoughts and prayers as he still has a long recovery ahead of him. He loves to get cards and letters so if your child has some extra time, please suggest making a card. Snacks Our extra snack tub is running low, mainly because the kids have been begging me to have a morning snack. We don't eat lunch until 12:00 so I'm sure they do get hungry! If you would be willing to send in a box or two of miscellaneous snacks, we would sure appreciate it ! ConferencesThough it's hard for me to believe, our final conferences are already next week. The link to the schedule is below. Upon arrival, please come into the classroom and get started right away. Do not wait in the hall. Our classroom is large enough to have two conferences going on at once so don't be shy, come on in and get started! I-Read ContestI-Read is a reading app that we use at Kreft to help improve reading skills. This month we are having a school wide contest to see which classroom has spent the most time on I-Read. Though we were off to a slow start, the kids worked very hard this past week and earned 158 points! One point is earned for each lesson completed. Due to such hard work we have earned a "pajama day" AND a "bring your stuffed animal to school" day. So that we don't have too much craziness going on next week, we will combine these two special treats into one day, which will be Wednesday, April 19. So mark your calendars and send your child to school next Wednesday in their pajamas WITH a stuffed animal!
Congratulations to Clay Teeters for being chosen to have Treats With The Principal! On a daily basis Clay "treats people right" and "does the right thing.:" Great work Clay! Dr. Seuss BagsPlease set aside approximately 20 minutes this weekend to read with your child. Each Monday morning I ask the kids if they read their books. Kids are brutally honest and many say no. The end of the year is quickly approaching and I would like to see everyone reading "on grade level or above" if at all possible. Please help us achieve this goal by reading with your child. Thanks! April Snack Calendar Came Home Today! The snack calendar for April was sent home today and is also posted here on the blog under Snack Calendars.
Speaking of snacks, our "extra" tub is getting a little low. Would you be willing to make a contribution to it? |
