After being cooped up inside all day yesterday, we were finally able to go out to recess! One of the things that I love about our new superintendent is that he regularly comes to Kreft to visit classrooms. He came to our room on Thursday and as always, he took a picture with a student. Thanks for stopping by DK! Our Valentine's Day Party will be held on February 14 at 2:00. Come and join us if you can! More info. to follow.

A few parents have told me that they received an email stating that their conference had been cancelled. This was an error. All conferences that were scheduled are STILL scheduled.
Here is what I have as of 3:45 today: Monday 4:00 Ava 4:20 Aric 4:40 Rory 5:20 Asa 5:40 Elliot 6:00 Braden S. 7:00 Lily 7:20 Emily 7:40 Josephine Thursday 8:40 Zayne 9:00 Gracie 1:40 Emma 5:00 Ryker 6:00 Karter F. 7:00 Brayton 7:40 Aviana Our next writing unit focuses on writing reviews of items, books, movies, and places. Please send a small collection of items (toys) your child has at home for our next writing unit by Monday, January 13th. The collection items should fit in either a shoebox or gallon sized ziploc baggie. When possible, each item should be labeled with your child’s name (that might be hard to do with cards). Possible collection ideas include small cars, baseball cards, Pokemon cards, barbies, dolls, books, rocks, stickers, marbles, action figures, lipglosses, Shopkins, etc. The items should be five or six of the same kind/type of thing so students can compare items from their collection in their writing. (Example: Don’t send 1 car, 1 baseball card, 1 Pokemon card, 1 rock, and 1 action figure.) We will be keeping collections here at school for about two weeks. Thank you! PhonicsThis week we worked on learning to read the days of the week. We sang a fun song that uses the days of the week called Today Is Monday. The link is below. Ask your child to sing it to you! The lyrics are included so it's a great way to practice reading while singing. Beanie BabiesWe are learning some important reading strategies from Beanie Babies! Imagine that??! So far we've met Chunky Monkey and Flippy the Dolphin. Chunky Monkey teaches us to look for chunks in words, such as "ap, ay, and it." Flippy the Dolphin teaches to flip the sound when sounding out words. For example, if short a doesn't make sense in an unknown word, flip the sound to long a. Painting With Bob RossToday, after finishing a painting project, we watched a few minutes of Bob Ross on youtube.com. The kids LOVED it! Painting is such a great relaxing activity, much better than watching tv or playing video games. Paints can be purchased at Hobby Lobby for around $5.00. Because we didn't have time to watch the whole episode of Bob Ross, I've included the link above. Some kids might want to watch it! Indoor RecessOh the weather outside is frightful, but the toys inside are so delightful....
This afternoon we had indoor recess and the kids had a blast! Though I've written thank you's to every child in the class, I'm never quite sure if they make it home, so I want to thank everyone again for the generous Christmas gift given to me by the class. It was very generous gift, to say the least, and it truly was a BIG surprise! As you well know, young children aren't very good about keeping secrets, but this one they definitely kept! Thank you, thank you, thank you! The gifts are pictured below! Cookie DecoratingOn December 20th the kids decorated sugar cookies. They were each given two cookies. One was to eat and one was to be given away, as an act of kindness. Most of the cookies given away went to former kindergarten teachers. The kids loved making their deliveries and the smiles on their faces made it all worth it. Thank you to everyone who sent in donations for the cookies. Below are a few pictures of the kids working on this fun project. I apologize that I wasn't able to get a photo of every child. When I was in college we learned that when making things with children, the PROCESS is more important than the PRODUCT. This is definitely true of our cookies!
December Titan of the MonthCongratulations to Brayton Driscoll for being selected as December's Titan of the Month. Great Work Brayton! FooD DriveThe food drive for the Thriving Titans was a HUGE success! Thank you to everyone who donated. When it was all said and done, we had 3 big boxes of food! Christmas Cards For Elliot's Uncle JordanThe cards that were sent to Elliot's uncle were a huge hit! Each member of the platoon received a gift bag of goodies, and each bag contained a Christmas card. The kids worked hard to make sure there were enough cards for ALL of the soldiers! Way to go kids!
