And yes, we are washing with soap and water whenever possible.
I know this is a long shot.......................but if you are able to donate hand sanitizer, we could use some. Though we have some at the moment, we will probably be out next week.

The kids absolutely LOVE having her come and share her expertise with us. She brings books, artifacts, vidoes, stuffed animals, and a wealth of knowledge. Today she taught the kids about sea lions. Social and Emotional LearningEveryday the students have 20-30 minutes of social and emotional learning time, better known to the kids as "play time." Two days a week it's in the SEL room, the rest of the time it's in our classroom. It is definitely the best part of the day! The kids love it, and so do I. Seeing how much joy this brings to the students makes my heart happy. Let's hope they will continue to love school in the years to come as much as they do now! ScienceOur current science unit is on light and sound. Much of our learning is found online through a program called Mystery Science. We even had a special guest, Miss Benson, visit our classroom with her guitar to teach us about how sound is created through vibrations. While learning about light we experimented with materials that were translucent (kind of see through), opaque (not see through), and transparent (see through). We made light catchers out of press and seal siren wrap and tissue paper. Science is one of our favorite subjects! Read Across AmericaA pink flier came home earlier this week highlighting the weeks events.
Monday-Wear green and eat breakfast in the cafeteria. Wednesday-No School Thursday-D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) Friday-Read to a stuffed animal. (Bring a stuffed animal) May 11, 7:00 pm, Music Program May 27, 1:00-2:30 End of the Year Celebration Prize Bucket Donations"Ask and you shall receive!" Thank you to all of the parents who sent donations for the prize bucket. We now have plenty of prizes!
Approximately once per month students are able to spend their titan tickets, which were earned for being respectful, responsible, and safe. Though some purchase things such as show and tell day or pajama day, some enjoy buying things from our "prize bucket," which is running low. Would you be willing to donate one or two of the items below so we can replenish our prizes? Suggestions are below, though use your own judgement and get whatever you think kids would like.
The Dollar Tree would be a great place to shop! Suggestions: sugar free bubble gum suckers candy of all types (ring pops, air heads, candy bars - regular size, etc.) little toys and trinkets stickers yo-you's little cars bubbles mini cans of playdough mini notebooks pens, markers, highlighters bracelets and necklaces The Valentine's Day Party is Friday, February 14, at 2:00. I'm going to keep it simple because what matters most to the kids is passing out and opening valentines!! We will also play some Minute To Win It games with candy hearts, and have ice cream sundaes. We will be exchanging valentine cards so please plan to send 23 cards. They can be homemade or store bought. Please have your child address the cards as they are more than capable of doing this job! :) If you would like to send a little Valentine treat, please tape it to your child's valentine cards. To help your child address his/her cards, I have included a class list (below). I have also sent a hard copy home. Your child will also need a Valentine box to gather his/her Valentine cards in. I have many fond memories of making my box with my mom! You can do whatever you want for your child's box, but be sure to clearly display your child's name on it. If you are unable to make a box with your child, please let me know and I will help your child make one at school. The same is true regarding Valentine cards. If you are unable to purchase them, please let me know and I will take care of this for you. I will, however, need a day or two's notice if help is needed. Because storage is always a problem, please don't send your child's valentine box until February 13 or 14. Asher Aric Ava Aviana Asa Brayton Braden Carter S. Elliot Emma Emily Gracie Garrett Hunter Joseph Josephine Khloe Karter F. Kratos Lilian Rory Ryker Zayne (optional) Mrs. Hulin Miss Lacy Mrs. Hahn Titan TrophiesWhenever our class earns 10 titan trophies, we have some type of celebration. This time, when we voted on what we wanted to do, we had a tie between "costume day" and "stuffed animal day." I told the kids they could choose which one they wanted to do. Of course someone asked if they could do BOTH and because they caught me at a weak moment, I said YES!
Our "costume and stuffed animal day" will be held on Tuesday, February 11. Please don't feel like you have to go out and buy a costume. Whatever your child used for Halloween will be just fine, OR feel free just to bring a stuffed animal. After being cooped up inside all day yesterday, we were finally able to go out to recess! DK VisitsOne of the things that I love about our new superintendent is that he regularly comes to Kreft to visit classrooms. He came to our room on Thursday and as always, he took a picture with a student. Thanks for stopping by DK! Mark YOur Calendar! Our Valentine's Day Party will be held on February 14 at 2:00. Come and join us if you can! More info. to follow.
A few parents have told me that they received an email stating that their conference had been cancelled. This was an error. All conferences that were scheduled are STILL scheduled.
Here is what I have as of 3:45 today: Monday 4:00 Ava 4:20 Aric 4:40 Rory 5:20 Asa 5:40 Elliot 6:00 Braden S. 7:00 Lily 7:20 Emily 7:40 Josephine Thursday 8:40 Zayne 9:00 Gracie 1:40 Emma 5:00 Ryker 6:00 Karter F. 7:00 Brayton 7:40 Aviana Our next writing unit focuses on writing reviews of items, books, movies, and places. Please send a small collection of items (toys) your child has at home for our next writing unit by Monday, January 13th. The collection items should fit in either a shoebox or gallon sized ziploc baggie. When possible, each item should be labeled with your child’s name (that might be hard to do with cards). Possible collection ideas include small cars, baseball cards, Pokemon cards, barbies, dolls, books, rocks, stickers, marbles, action figures, lipglosses, Shopkins, etc. The items should be five or six of the same kind/type of thing so students can compare items from their collection in their writing. (Example: Don’t send 1 car, 1 baseball card, 1 Pokemon card, 1 rock, and 1 action figure.) We will be keeping collections here at school for about two weeks. Thank you! PhonicsThis week we worked on learning to read the days of the week. We sang a fun song that uses the days of the week called Today Is Monday. The link is below. Ask your child to sing it to you! The lyrics are included so it's a great way to practice reading while singing. Beanie BabiesWe are learning some important reading strategies from Beanie Babies! Imagine that??! So far we've met Chunky Monkey and Flippy the Dolphin. Chunky Monkey teaches us to look for chunks in words, such as "ap, ay, and it." Flippy the Dolphin teaches to flip the sound when sounding out words. For example, if short a doesn't make sense in an unknown word, flip the sound to long a. Painting With Bob RossToday, after finishing a painting project, we watched a few minutes of Bob Ross on youtube.com. The kids LOVED it! Painting is such a great relaxing activity, much better than watching tv or playing video games. Paints can be purchased at Hobby Lobby for around $5.00. Because we didn't have time to watch the whole episode of Bob Ross, I've included the link above. Some kids might want to watch it! Indoor RecessOh the weather outside is frightful, but the toys inside are so delightful....
This afternoon we had indoor recess and the kids had a blast! Though I've written thank you's to every child in the class, I'm never quite sure if they make it home, so I want to thank everyone again for the generous Christmas gift given to me by the class. It was very generous gift, to say the least, and it truly was a BIG surprise! As you well know, young children aren't very good about keeping secrets, but this one they definitely kept! Thank you, thank you, thank you! The gifts are pictured below! Cookie DecoratingOn December 20th the kids decorated sugar cookies. They were each given two cookies. One was to eat and one was to be given away, as an act of kindness. Most of the cookies given away went to former kindergarten teachers. The kids loved making their deliveries and the smiles on their faces made it all worth it. Thank you to everyone who sent in donations for the cookies. Below are a few pictures of the kids working on this fun project. I apologize that I wasn't able to get a photo of every child. When I was in college we learned that when making things with children, the PROCESS is more important than the PRODUCT. This is definitely true of our cookies!
December Titan of the MonthCongratulations to Brayton Driscoll for being selected as December's Titan of the Month. Great Work Brayton! FooD DriveThe food drive for the Thriving Titans was a HUGE success! Thank you to everyone who donated. When it was all said and done, we had 3 big boxes of food! Christmas Cards For Elliot's Uncle JordanThe cards that were sent to Elliot's uncle were a huge hit! Each member of the platoon received a gift bag of goodies, and each bag contained a Christmas card. The kids worked hard to make sure there were enough cards for ALL of the soldiers! Way to go kids!
