Thank you to those who have sent in donations for our school store. Though I won't turn down any type of donation from the list below, we don't have any fancy pens, pencils, and journals/notepads. As soon as we have enough donations, we will open the store! Believe me, the kids can't wait! They have seen the donations come in and they are itching to get started!

Congratulations to Rebecca Thompson for earning Treats With the Principal! Rebecca "treats people right" and "does the right thing" on a daily basis. Great work Rebecca! Bus Behavior RecognitionCongratulations to Drew Kelly for his outstanding bus behavior! Nice work Drew! Reading HomeworkThe Dr. Seuss bags are coming home again this weekend. Please spend some time reading with your child and working on sight words. The end of the year goal for sight words is 71 words in a minute. Time your child to see if he/she is able to make the goal.
The LC PTA is doing a fundraiser called Display My Art. The order forms are coming home today. If you would like to order something, return the order form by April 13. Final ConferenceIt's already time to schedule our last conference of the year. Please request three times that work for you (the schedule is coming home today) and return to school ASAP. April Snack CalendarThe April snack/special calendar has posted under SNACK CALENDARS. If you are unable to send snacks on your child's day, please let me know and I will provide them for you. We now have 22 students. GoodBye Katie! Our good friend Katie has moved to Shenandoah and we are already missing her a lot! Best wishes to Katie at her new school! Study Trip To The Children's Museum,The field trip to the Children's Museum is Thursday, April 6. Because we can only take one "official" chaperone, I had to draw names, and Jami (Josie's mom) is the lucky winner! All other parents are welcome to meet us at the Children's Museum. Keep in mind that those of you who will be meeting us there will have to pay the entrance fee, which is $12.00.
If you haven't already done so, please return the field trip slip that was sent home last week, as I need to know if you will be sending a sack lunch for your child, or if you need a school packed lunch. The following students have returned their paperwork: Josie, Annabell, Nick, Karsen, Jaylee, Evan, Niall, Drew, Lily, Hayleigh, Alexa, Maddison, Sasha, I'm really getting a kick out of the persuasive letters the kids are writing. Here are a few more to share:
Dear Mom, Can I please have some books of my own? Because it will keep me entertained. Please! I want Dr. Seuss books. And if you buy me 20 books I could finish my Pizza Hut thing! And I will not get a pizza, but I will get a salad! I love you! Your Daughter, Dallis Dear Mon and Dad, Can we please get a cat? Because no more vacuuming for food messes! I will be your best friend. I will do anything (but go to work for you)! Your Daughter, Hayleigh Dear Mom and Dad, Please can I have a puppy? I would feed it every day. I will take care of it every day, I promise! I will give it baths (if you will teach me). You would love it! It will snuggle with me! Author unknown Dear Mom, What if I could go to the library for a week. I can shelf the books. I can help the kids. Know why I can help you? Then you might have more sick days! I promise I will not distract you. I'll do all of my chores without you even yelling! Alexa Joy DeWitt Dear Mom and Dad. Can I have a playground PLEASE? I will wash it and I will take turns on it if there is one. I will help build it. I will help kids if there is a swing and they do not know how to swing. I will let Cole test it first. If some one does the monkey bars and falls and gets hurt, I will help them! I will not push anyone off. So can I have a playground? From Drew On Friday, March 31, we will be going to the Joslyn Art Museum to watch Ballet Nebraska's MOMENTUM. We will attend the show in the morning and will return in time for lunch. Unfortunately we are unable to take parent volunteers. On April 6 we will be taking a field trip to the Omaha Children's Museum. This trip will be in the morning followed by lunch at a park (weather permitting). If you would like to join us, please let me know. All parents are welcome! One parent will be a "chaperone" and will ride with the class on the bus. All other parents are welcome to meet us at the museum. Buddy Fun Day will be held on May 19. I'm not sure if our class will be going in the morning or in the afternoon, but mark your calendar and plan to join us! We need LOTS of parent helpers for this day to be a success. More info to follow. Dr. Seuss BagsThe Dr. Seuss bags will be coming home on Friday, March 24. Please set aside 15-20 minutes to read with your child. Once finished, sign the note inside, and return your child's Dr. Seuss bag to your child's backpack. The books inside the Dr. Seuss bags are from our reading groups. If your child does not return his bag, he/she won't have any books for the reading group. Students who return their bags AND who have a signed note from their parents stating that they DID their homework are allowed to choose a "fun" center. Let's see if we can get everyone to return his/her bag on time! I-ReadCongratulations to the following students for working EXTRA hard on their I-Read. They have completed the most topics (units) this year. Nick 61 Topics Maddison 48 Topics Evan 39 Topics Karsen 37 Topics Niall 32 Topics Keep in mind that your child can access I-Read from the Kreft Home Page. The username is your child's first name and the password is LCtitans. Persuasive Letter Writing UnitWe are now working on a persuative letter writing unit. Students began by making a list of things they wanted at home/school. They then choose one item off of their list and wrote a letter trying to persuade someone to get them what they wanted. An example is below: Dear Mrs. Grell, Can we please have more recesses because kids need more air and more exercise. Teachers want more peace and quiet time. So can we please have more recess? I LOVE recess. Maddison Look for your child to bring home a persuasive letter. If you don't see one, talk to your child about it. It could be that your child wrote to someone other than mom or dad. SnacksThe "extra" snack tub is running low. When someone forgets snack this is our "go to" for snack. If you would be willing to make a donation, that would be great! It doesn't have to be enough for the whole class, any amount will do! All that I ask is that the snack is bagged up, ready to go, and doesn't need refrigeration. Social StudiesIn the next few weeks we are going to do a Social Studies unit on the economy. It will be based on wants and needs. The students will earn money and will be able to shop at a school store. I'm going to need some donations for the store. If you would be willing to help out, the items needed are:
*gum (packs or individual pieces, like bubble gum) *candy (mini or full size) *pencils/pens *notepads/ journals *little toys The Dollar Store or Dollar Tree would be the perfect place to pick up some of the needed items. Thanks in advance! Congratulations to Rebecca and Jessie for having perfect attendance during trimester 2! Great work girls!
The Dr. Seuss bags are coming home today. Please take 15-20 minutes to read with your child this weekend. Please sign the homework slip and return it, along with the bag, on Monday, March 13. All bags need to be returned on Monday, even if you didn't have time to read the books. The books will be needed on Monday when our reading groups meet. If you child doesn't return his/her Dr. Seuss bag, he/she won't have any books to read at the reading group. Thanks! Fairy Tale UnitThe Fairy Tale unit is over and a new Persuasive Letter Writing Unit has started. If your child did not finish his/her fairy tale book at school, it is coming home for homework. Please help your child to finish it this weekend, then return on Monday, March 13. Trimester Three BenchmarksThe benchmarks for trimester three will be coming home on Monday. Keep this to use as a reference when you ask your child what they did at school. If they say NOTHING, look at each curriculum area and be more specific in your questioning.
Today report cards are coming home. The actual report card is yours to keep, the envelope needs to be signed and returned. If you have questions and/or concerns, do not hesitate to ask! Book FairWe visited the book fair today and most students were able to make a purchase. I must apologize for their choices!!! Trying to shop with 23 students who have little knowledge about money was a challenge, to say the least! It just wasn't possible for me to monitor ALL of them, so again, I'm sorry...........................
Thank YOU for your generosity! Most students came with a $20 bill and though they don't know a lot about money, most of them figured out how to spend EVERY cent! We FINALLY won the attendance trophy again! Last week we had 100% of our class in school every day! Attendance DOES matter! Thank you parents and kids for making attendance at school a priority!
Don't forget! No school March 3-6. The teachers will be working on report cards on Friday March 3 and will have staff development on Monday, March 6. Dr. Seuss Bags Coming HomeThe four day weekend will be the perfect time to listen to your child read! Once you have finished reading the books in the Dr. Seuss bag, return the bag to your child's backpack so that it's ready to return on Tuesday, March 7. The books from the Dr. Seuss bags are reading group books and will be needed when we return to school on Tuesday.
Please notice that a sight word list is included in your child's Dr. Seuss bag. The end of the year goal for sight words is 67 in one minute. |
