Today your child is bringing home his/her Dr. Seuss bag with reading homework inside. Please set aside 15-20 minutes to listen to your child read. I'm always a little disappointed with the number of kids who tell me they forgot to do their homework or they were too busy. Let's carve out a few minutes this weekend so everyone can do their homework. The kids seem to be in love with the Biscuit books these days. They are perfect for first graders who are just learning to read. The books range in reading levels from level E to level G. If you would be interested in buying one of these books, check out the latest book order that just came home. If you don't see what you want, go to scholastic.com and type in the title you are looking for. You can purchase any title that Scholastic sells, even if it isn't in the flier that came home. Some of our favorite titles are below. Just a friendly reminder that we don't eat lunch until 12:30. Please consider sending something that will last us until lunch.. This past week we've had a couple of healthy, filling snacks (fruit kabobs, apples/grapes, and bananas/cheese) that the kids LOVED! I realize fruit is a more expensive snack but it's worth it! Speaking of lunch........................our lunch is at 12:30 and you are welcome to join us anytime! If you would like a quiet peaceful setting, feel free to eat in our classroom. If loud (and a little crazy) doesn't bother you, then meet us in the entry way at 12:30 and join us in the lunchroom. You are always welcome at Kreft! We did it AGAIN! I'm so glad that attendance at school is important to you! Thanks for supporting your child's education by getting him/her to school each day! Though we are currently doing a writing unit on How To, we are going to do a little opinion writing next week for election day. Though we are not going to get into political discussions, the kids are going to write their opinions about who THEY think should be president. Don't you worry, they DO have opinions about this! I've been hearing all about who they think is best. Please take a little time to talk with your child about the upcoming election and help them to get some ideas for this writing project. An opinion piece includes two important parts: 1. opinion 2. reason for opinion.. I'm hoping to share some of the kids' opinions on the blog after this project is complete. You are sure to get a kick out of their opinions! I-Read is a reading app that is one of the best that I've ever seen! The kids are expected to work on this app when they go to the i-pad station, which is typically 2-3 times per week. Some of the kids are working hard and making lots of progress, some are not. Please consider downloading this app so that your child can work on it at home. So far Karsen has completed the most topics (units) in I-Read. Way to go Karsen! Please send toliet paper and paper towel rolls so we can do our How To make Thanksgiving turkeys.
