The book orders this month are due on Friday, September 18th. If paying by check please make your check payable to Scholastic. If ordering from different forms only one check is needed. You may also pay with cash, or with a credit card when ordering online. For online orders please use the classroom code which is M66PV.
Today your child should have brought home a book order. Each month a new book order will be sent home. Order if you want but do not feel obligated. The company selling the books, Scholastic, awards free books to the classroom teacher based on the number of books ordered. So the more you order, the more the classroom gets for free! The free books are placed in our classroom library for the children to enjoy.

Congratulations to Colton Lear and Brynn Norville! They are the LC homecoming king and queen. And to Kole for doing an awesome job representing Kreft! Weekend homework Look for a Dr. Seuss bag with books inside to come home today. You will find 2 books that your child should be able to read to you and 2 books for you to read to your child. Happy Reading! Please return the bag of books on Monday, September 14.
Our classmate Kole Aldrich along with Claire Miller have been chosen to represent Kreft at tonight's Homecoming Coronation!
Here is a link to the Welcome to School song that we have been singing in the morning!
We did it! We survived the first week of school! Typically our first week is only three days so our four day week seemed REALLY long! I could tell that the children were getting tired as the week went on and so was I! Overall it was a great week with a great bunch of kids! I'm looking forward to a fun, successful year year!
I'm planning to use this website to replace the typical classroom newsletters. Whenever I post something new on the blog, I will notify you with an email. As always, if you have questions and/or concerns, please contact me. All of my contact information can be found on the CONTACT page. Dismissal Speaking of dismissal, please email or send a handwritten note with dismissal information. Though I would love to take your child's word, I must have some type of written communication regarding dismissal changes. If you choose to email me ([email protected]) please CC Teri Black in the office ([email protected]) so that she has the needed information as well. Dismissal can be a very hectic time! If you plan to pick up your child, please be on time. I would suggest arriving no later than 3:20-3:25. You can expect to find me or Mr. Martinez at the gym for dismissal. Once all of the children have been picked up from the gym, I will take the remaining children to the office. If you are running late, check the office first to see if your child is waiting there. Water Bottles If you would like to send a water bottle with your child, feel free to do so. Though we won't be using them all year long, they are nice on hot days! Snack We will have a daily snack each afternoon. The snack calendar for September has been posted on the blog under the SNACK tab. I would like to use the blog for the snack calendar and if it's doable for parents, I won't be printing a hardcopy to send home. On your child's snack day please send 24 "somewhat" healthy snacks. Though I'm not real picky about what you send, please no candy, potato chips, cupcakes (unless it's your child's birthday). Healthy suggestions include fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, yogurt, pudding, applesauce, jello with fruit, cheese and crackers, string cheese, pretzels, granola bars, etc. As I mentioned earlier, fruit snacks are discouraged. If at all possible, please send the SAME snack for everyone. It can get very time consuming when choices are involved, and it never fails, someone doesn't get what they want. If you really want to send something that allows choices, ex: chocolate and vanilla pudding, please send MORE than 24 pudding cups. This will allow for everyone to get what they want. Please send snacks bagged up and ready to go. Please DO NOT send, for example, a box of graham crackers. It take too long to figure out the serving size, plus it's unsanitary to have to touch everyone's food. If your child's snack needs to be refrigerated, that's not a problem. We have refrigerator space at school. Just be sure to tell your child to relay this information to me! If your child brings extra snack, we will keep the extras at school and use them on days when our snack helper has forgotten! A day without snack is a VERY sad day!! Lastily, if providing snack is a financial burden for you, please let me know. I would be happy to provide shack for your child on his/her snack day, though I will need a little lead time of 1-2 days. Specials Our special's schedule is based on a 6 day rotation. Because this can be quite confusing, I will post the specials on the snack calendar. Please be sure to send your child in tennis shoes on PE days. If they do not have appropriate shoes, they will heave to sit out, and no one wants to miss PE! Poetry and Song Folder Last week your child brought home a Poetry and Song folder. Whenever a new poem or song is introduced at school, a copy will come home. Please add it to your child's folder and use it for nightly reading practice. Read the poems and songs together. Practice pointing to the words. Look for sight words. Practice reading with expression and fluency. Talk about the meaning of the poem. Classroom Wish List Though we are very fortunate here at Kreft to have all the necessary classroom supplies, I often have a "wish list." The items on the list are classroom "wants" rather than needs." If you are feeling generous and would like to donate something on the list, choose one of the times below, purchase it, and send it to school. The kids and I say THANK YOU in advance! *smelly markers (can be found at Office Max, Walgreens, Amazon) *multi-media art paper (to be used at the art center for watercolor painting, can be purchased at Hobby Lobby for $3.49) *play dough (big size) *band aids (We use a TON of these!) Lunch Lunch is at 12:00 sharp and you are welcome to join us anytime you want! Please arrive at 11:55 and meet us in the entryway of the school. If you are coming for lunch it is VERY important that you arrive on time. If you are not there when your child goes through the lunch line, he/she will be required to take a school lunch. Please note that outside food IS allowed in the cafeteria. Academic Work Though much of our time this past week was spent learning the rules and routines of the classroom, we had plenty of work to do as well! Math-We played Guess My Number, reviewed the calendar each day, and practiced counting sets of objects (Counting Collections), to name a few. Phonics-We worked on the short a sound. Reading-We practiced reading our agenda (daily) and worked on reading the names of our classmates. Each day we learned a new poem or song which was used for reading and fluency practice. Writing_We wrote birthday letters to Irelynn. Mr. Martinez-Student Teacher Mr. Martinez is doing an awesome job and the kids LOVE him! When we played Guess My Number they had all sorts of crazy ideas about his age (from 16-65)! Once they learned that he was actually 23, they guessed my age to be the same! Oh my! Mr. Martinez will be team teaching with me for a time, followed by a couple of weeks when he will be required to teach everything! I am very confident in his abilities and feel very fortunate to have him in our classroom. Welcome Mr. Martinez! |
